MENALINKS Regional Study Tour & First Regional Expert Committee Meeting in Marrakech
28 September - 3 October 2025

The Regional Study Tour to Morocco is organised by the MENALINKS programme led by Guidehouse, bringing together stakeholders from the power system sector from across the MENA region. As part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German government, the MENALINKS programme supports future-proof grid solutions and power system flexibility that are necessary for a successful transformation of the power systems and the integration of renewable energies. MENALINKS supports these solutions in five partner countries: Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, and Türkiye, and aims to provide policy, technical, and financial instruments for smart grid applications, flexibility options, and sector coupling. Following an implementation-oriented approach, MENALINKS sustains the preparation of pilot projects, capacity-building, and regional dissemination.
The study tour took place back-to-back with the World PtX Summit in Marrakesh including organized expert sessions and a dedicated MENALINKS side event panel discussion.
Additionally, the participants visited the Green Energy Park’s research lab and other smart grid facilities, and attended discussions on green hydrogen and energy transition policies, ensuring a holistic experience.
Moreover, the first meeting of the MENALINKS Regional Expert Committee took place, including exchange of status quo and lessons learned so far in each MENALINKS country.
This inaugural meeting brought together key energy stakeholders from Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia and Türkiye to reflect on national progress and lessons learned within the activities of the MENALINKS programme for enhancing renewable’s integration with smart grids and sector coupling technologies. In a dedicated workshop, participants further discussed ideas for strengthened regional collaboration on technical and regulatory levels. They identified priority topics for upcoming regional cooperation to learn from other countries' progress in the integration of renewable energies in power systems.
Throughout an entire week of collaboration and exchange, participants explored the future of smart grids, flexibility, and sector coupling — key enablers for the MENA region’s sustainable energy transition, bringing together energy experts, regulators, and institutions from Morocco, Jordan, Egypt, Türkiye, and Tunisia.
