MENALINKS Third National Stakeholder Workshop - Enhancing Regulatory Conditions For Industrial Flexibility

The aim of this National Stakeholder Workshop is to present MENALINKS analysis of the regulatory framework for industrial flexibility in Jordan including international benchmarks. Stakeholders shared their views and recommendations to create an enabling framework for industrial flexibility in Jordan.
Welcoming and opening remarks were given by Eng. Omar Rousan (MEMR) and Christian Nabe (Guidehouse).
MENALINKS consortium presented and discussed the analysis that focuses on Regulatory tools for enabling industrial flexibility, as well as International benchmarking of industrial flexibility regulation. RSS also presented the Industrial flexibility regulatory framework in Jordan.
Throug the panel discussion, the panelists provided valuable guidance for the selection of regulatory options for Jordan.
The workshop concluded with a stakeholder consultation with industry and distribution system operators on the most fitting flexibility and regulatory options to ensure capturing sector-specific realities and future opportunities in the country.
The workshop was followed by the National Expert Committee meeting,that took forward the outcomes of the workshop, prioritizing the regulatory options and developing a roadmap for activating flexibility.
The MENALINKS National Expert Committee provides is chaired by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources-Jordan, and bringing together representatives from the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), Electricity Distribution Company (EDCO), Irbid District Electricity Company (IDECO), Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO), Jordan Industrial Estate Company, Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI).
MENALINKS is a 6-year program under the International Climate Initiative (IKI) sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) that is implemented in Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and Türkiye. It supports the integration and use of renewable energies (RE) to contribute to GHG emissions reduction. For Jordan, the MENALINKS consortium has been tasked by the Jordanian Government to explore the potential of industrial flexibility.
