MENALINKS Study Tour to Berlin - Flexibility Technologies, Tools and Frameworks

RSS/NERC team took part in the MENALINKS Strudy Tour in Berlin in Feb 2025.
The MENALINKS Study Tour provided a deep dive into grid reliability and resilience strategies, advanced technological solutions, and practical challenges on the side of Transmission System Operator (TSO).
The Study tour provided participants with expert insights and first-hand exposure to flexibility technologies and frameworks. The agenda focused on three key topic areas, namely flexibility needs and tools for power systems with higher shares of renewable energies, technologies and frameworks for smart grid applications, and knowledge exchange and mutual learning. The study tour encompass activities such as expert inputs on the flexibility of the power system, a site visit to a smart grid application and hands-on exercises.
It included visits to 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sonnenenergie e. V. (DGS), BVES Energy Storage Systems Association and Schneider Electric for demonstrating their experience in real-time grid management and operations.
The tour brought together expert stakeholders from the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development - Kingdom of Morocco, National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), Green Energy Park, IRESEN - Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies, Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources-Jordan
