The project involved performing assessment for all energy consuming equipment in more than 200 schools distributed all over the governorates in Jordan. This included the replacement of conventional energy equipment with higher efficiency equipment (e.g. conventional space heating sources (boilers), installing efficient lighting units in classrooms and admin facilities, performing full repairs and maintenance works for buildings’ envelopes (windows and walls), installing Solar Water Heaters to provide domestic hot water and installing Solar Photovoltaics systems to reduce schools’ dependency on utility grid.
Public Schools Heating Project aimed to improve classroom environment through providing appropriate space heating and cooling all year round, help reduce energy consumption of public schools, support and encourage students and local community to use clean energy, disseminate the concept of energy and water management for students and the community, and contribute in mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions.
It is worth mentioning that the project contributed to reduce CO2 emissions by 4,615 tons per year.
Public Schools Heating Project was developed by the Royal Scientific Society / National Energy Research Center in response to His Majesty King Abdullah II Initiative to heat public schools by solar energy and provide appropriate learning environment.
